Polish alpine and Himalaya climber who does not need any further introduction. He was the fifth person to accomplish the “Crown of the Himalaya” and the “Crown of the Karakoram”. He conquered three of these 8-thousanders: Mount Everest, Kanjenjunga and Lhothse in the winter seasons and was the first man ever to do so. He set foot on Lhotse alone on New Year’s Eve in a corset that he had to wear due to an injury to his spine. He reached the summit of Broad Peak solo in just one day (the first ascent from the base camp to a summit of an eight-thousander in a single day). He reached the summits of Dhaulagiri (in 16 hours) and Shishapangma alone, setting new routes on his way. He participated in a few expeditions meant to reach the summit of K2.

Ireneusz Gosztyła

The drive behind the Mountain Portal. Some time ago a deputy chairman of the High-mountain Club of the Polish Jura region. He held this chair since the foundation of the club becoming a source of inspiration and an organiser of many endavours completed on behalf of the Club. Has been a rock and mountain climber for eleven years now, both in winter and summer seasons, but in the Tatra mountains definitely prefers the winter. A cold winter’s bivouac enthusiast. Loves off-route excursions. He also has set some new routes in the Jura rock-climbing regions. Has also been a caretaker of the Club’s website – jkw.pl which has now been transformed into the Mountain Portal. He also took part in two expeditions into Tajikistan.

Wojciech Karnaś

Almost a forester and a full-time editor-in-chief of the Mountain Portal. An active climber since 1999. As a child he already wanted to be “employed” as an alpinist. He completed his first climbs in Polish Jura regions. Later on his trips enabled him to complete climbs in Iceland, Austria, Slovenia, France, Italy, Germany, Czech Republic, Slovakia and Switzerland. He enjoys diversity but loves hard sports-orientated routes set on the faces of the mountains. In the Tatras he has completed in record time such routes as Metallica IX+ on Mnich East face, Matrix IX on the Western face of Kościelec or Saduś IX. He also was the first to complete a numerous climbing routes in the Polish Jura.
